PRESS COMMUNIQUE Day - 2

The Goa agenda 2005 was held in Panjim at Cidade De Goa on 4th and 5th February with the theme “Outsourcing- Challenges Ahead”. The conference was held under the aegis of GCCI. The first session had Mr. Srinath Batni of Infosys, Mr. Ravi Dighe of Aptech and Mr. Girish Nair of Aztec Software highlighting the fact that organizations need to adapt to new challenges posed by the changing environment in the global scenario. The second session had Dr. Anupam Saraph, Advisor to Govt. of Govt., Ms. Jyoti Bacche of Aztec software and Dr. V.V. Kamat of Goa University addressing the concept of R&D with respect to the BPO industry. The concluding session of the first day concentrated on the challenges for the BPO industry with the speakers Mr. Manoj Kunkalienkar of ICICI Infotech, Mr. S N Zindal of STPI, Mr. Pradeep Phadke of GTL and Mr. Hemant Sukhathankar of M4II focusing on concepts like reengineering, & reverse engineering as the tools for sustainability of the BPO industry.

The second day was dedicated to the topic of “Common Impact- social and political Opportunities and concerns”. The speakers were Mr. Sanjiv Nadkarni of NE Technologies, Mr. Sharad Saxena, Chief manager-IT, Konkan Railways, Dr. M V Pitke of Axes Technologies. They deliberated on trends like Government Process Outsourcing (using the hub and spoke model) and risk mitigation strategies in outsourcing. The moderators for the sessions were Dr. Albert Goveia , Mr. K.D.Kulkarni , Prof. Sukhtankar and Mr. P. Sridhar. The two day conference established that Goa does have the potential to be a major IT hub as it possesses acceptable infrastructure and large pool of skilled english speaking manpower. It also brought to the forefront the commitment of GCCI to project Goa as the preferred IT destination.

The Valedictory function had the welcome speech by Mr. Sandeep Verenkar, Chairman, IT committee, GCCI who discussed the problems and opportunities for IT companies to start their operations in Goa. Mr. P.Sridhar, Co-Chairman IT committee, GCCI, summarized the issues presented at the two-day conference highlighting the challenges and opportunities for Goa to emerge as the IT outsourcing hub.

The chief guest, Mr. B.S. Ganu, Chief Commissioner, Customs and Central Excise expressed his satisfaction on the progress of Goa IT agenda over the years and commended the efforts of Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Manguish Pai Raikar, Honorary treasurer, GCCI. The other prominent personalities present at the two day conference included Mr. S.K.Sawhney, Commissioner, Customs and Central Excise, Dr. L.U.Joshi, Chairamn Pollution Control board and Mr. A.V. Palekar , MD Goa IDC. The two day seminar was attended by Heads of IT Depatments of various Companies , Students of Technical and Management Colleges.
