Goa Agenda: HR Connect 2004

Background
The series of events held by Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, under the brand of ‘Goa Agenda’, is turning out to be immensely successful. As we all are probably aware, Goa Agenda was formed with a dual purpose of creating and developing IT & ITES industry in the state and act as a platform to deliberate on the role and significance of Information Technology for the entire society. So far we have organised three important events under the aegis of Goa Agenda; IT for Society, Goa Tourism Meet, and Emerging markets in IT.

The Chamber was successful in bringing together stalwarts from the IT industry to deliberate and strategize on the needs of information technology for the benefit of society as a whole. ‘Emerging Markets in IT’ was a result of the discourse that took place at the ‘IT for Society’ meet. The second meet of Goa Agenda brought together opinion makers and leaders from the IT industry to discuss the emerging markets in IT.

This year the Goa Agenda again has a very unique theme. Every year corporates go to the colleges for campus placement. They have to visit each college and thus they sometimes miss out on certain colleges due to paucity of time. Another problem faced by our students is that corporates avoid coming to Goa because they do not get substantial number of students in one college.

Over the years this has been a repetitive phenomenon and the younger generation has been missing out on a lot of opportunities. After a lot of thought we found a way to overcome this problem. Instead of the companies coming to one or two colleges in the entire state, why not invite all the colleges and companies together under one roof? With this concept in mind GCCI has decided to organize a programme called ‘HR Connect’.

This program will currently target only students studying degree courses in IT, who have passed out in 2004 and the students who are currently in the final year and will pass out in 2005. This would be beneficial for both the corporates and the student community. The companies do not have to come repetitively for placements and they also get a better choice of candidates to choose from. On the other hand the students can get better opportunities in good companies.

Hence, this event HR Connect - which is a brainchild of GCCI’s IT Committee, becomes need of the hour.

Venue
The Goa Agenda: HR Connect will be held on September 8, 9 and 10, 2004 at the International Center, Dona Paula near Goa’s capital city – Panaji. The venue, located on the Bambolim plateau is just 8 kms from Panaji.
