Goa Agenda: HR Connect 2005 College Information Goa University, Vice-Chancellor: Dr. P. S. Zacharias
Located just 5 kms from the capital city Panaji, the campus spreads nearly 173 hectares across the Taleigao Plateau, overlooking the river Zuari adjoining the Arabian Sea. Goa University established the Department of Computer Science and Technology (DCST) in the year 1987, with the functional assistance from DOE/UGC under the manpower development scheme. Goa University thus became one of the selected universities in the country imparting training and education in the field of Computer Science and Application at the postgraduate level. In 1988 the department signed an MOU with the countrys premier institute in software technology, National Center for Software Technology (NCST), for imparting quality education in computer science. Under the MOU, the faculty and the students of the department have participated in joint research/projects with the members of the staff of NCST. Presently the department has seven full time faculty members. As and when necessary the department invites resource persons from NCST, IIT, and IBM and from the industry to deliver guest lectures on specialized topics. The students who have graduated from this department are currently holding good positions in various reputed organizations in the country and overseas. The MCA course conducted by the Goa University is aimed at imparting comprehensive knowledge and practice covering all aspects of computer uses in the industry. The course content has been revised from the academic year 1998-99 and the revised course content is broadly based on the recommendations of All India Board for Computer Science, Engineering and Application, a committee appointed by the All India Council of Technical education (AICTE) to design curriculum for the MCA program. Curriculum includes a combination of Computer Science, Mathematics, and Management Science. During the last semester, every student is required to take up a system development project covering System Analysis, Design, Implementation and testing phases.
