Dhempe College of Arts & Science was established in June1962 by the late Padmashri Vasantrao S. Dempo, the late Vaikuntrao S. Dempo, the late Dayanand Bandodkar and other generous members of the society. Presently, Dhempe College of Arts & Science is being managed by Dempo Charities Trust. The college has been accredited by National Assessment and Accreditation Council, Bangalore which has given B+ grading to the college. The main objective of Dhempe College is to provide good quality education to young students so that the acquired knowledge would help them in their overall development. The college has a team of highly qualified and committed staff.

The college started the Computer Science Department from the year 2000-2001. The first batch of students passed out in the year 2003. The two batches that passed out have had a 100% result. One student of the first batch bagged a state rank. The students of the department are encouraged to participate in various technical events and have shown very good performances, winning the Infofest’04 held by Goa University.

The curriculum include some fundamentally important papers in Computer Science such as Programming in C and Data structures, Computer Organization and Operating Systems, Databases, Networking, Software Engineering and Object Oriented Programming. The Projects taken up by students help them to work on latest technologies of their choice such as PHP, Java etc. This also helps in developing team work abilities amongst students.

The Computer Science department has a well equipped laboratory consisting of 29 PCs of which 6 machines are P-IV with 256 MB RAM all other machines are P-II with 128 MB RAM. The Computers in the laboratory are networked on a LAN. Internet access is available. The Department has dot-matrix and inkjet printers. It also has a CD writer and scanning facility. The department has a MSDN subscription and students are encouraged to use the same. The students are also exposed to open source technologies and are made to work on Linux
